About CNC Speedwell Ltd
The company is a highly invested state of the art machining facility, primarily focused on the prismatic machining of iron and aluminium castings with its core business being for the automotive, truck and trailer industries. Parts range from chassis components, engine brackets, axle & suspension parts, exhaust/transmission & gearbox parts etc.
The company operates both production and despatch from two sites, one in Brownhills, West Midlands and the second in Fradley Park, Staffordshire. It is very much a hands on business with a belief in training and good communication. Our highly capable workforce has played a critical role in the company’s success with a large majority of its Managers and Supervisors coming up through the ranks from the shop floor.
In February 1996 CNC Speedwell Ltd joined Castings PLC group of companies. CNC then turned over around £1million per annum. Since then, other than during the recent recession, CNC has experienced continuous growth and has had its record year in 2010/2011 turning over almost £20million, with expectations of £25million for the current financial year.
Our Production Approach
To achieve the maximum return on its investments CNC speedwell works its machines hard and makes sure that they are covered for as many hours as possible. It uses as few machine tool suppliers as possible for maximum flexibility within the shop, and uses standard setups, even if this means putting small parts on large machines. Twin spindle machining centres make up around 75% of CNC’s machining capacity and gives around 75% more productivity than the equivalent single spindle machines.
Machines generally have a swivel table for in-cycle loading. Hydraulic fixturing incorporating automatic clamping elements are used, with standard tool plate for flexibility. The hydraulic approach is taken as it gives quick load/unload, accuracy and repeatability, and allows the machines to be pushed hard. Where possible, sets of parts are machined together and the fixtures are designed for finished machining in one set-up.
