JOB TITLE: Shift Quality Engineer
DEPARTMENT: Quality
CONTRACT HRS: 39 Hours per week
CORE HOURS: 17:45pm – 04:00am Monday to Thursday
REPORTS TO: Quality Manager
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To facilitate clear and effective communication between the day and night shifts and between the Quality Department and Supervision on quality matters.
To monitor the general quality of running parts.
To take the necessary action when problems are identified and to minimise scrap whilst ensuring that incorrect parts are not sent to the Customer.
To drive the continual improvement process.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Quality
Get to know all of the jobs produced in the factory, including potential gauging and quality issues.
Get to know current and previous internal and external quality problems.
Liaise with the Supervision and Operators to ensure awareness of such issues.
Inform the Nightshift Manager of current quality concerns that are highlighted by the Quality Manager.
Patrol Inspection
Work with and support the shift inspection to ensure that the necessary checks are carried out on running parts.
Review the effectiveness of measurement data on new and existing product including the review and analysis SPC data.
Ensure effective retention and storage of measurement data,
Quality Documentation
Assist in the completion of quality documentation, from PPAP through to part specific instructions.
Review concerns and develop effective corrective and preventive action plans.
Quality Training
Carry out internal quality training to ensure all personnel have a good understanding of the quality aspects of their roles.
Develop training plans to achieve the above.
Carry out training reviews as deemed to be necessary by the Quality Manager or Nightshift Manager.
CMM Checking and Part Pass-off
Working with the shift inspection, check parts against the Customer drawings and specifications using the Company’s CMM’s. Information about the priority of this work will be provided by the Quality Manager or Nightshift Manager.
- Give clear and prompt feedback to the Nightshift Supervision on necessary adjustments. Get to know the machining operation sequence to ensure feedback is accurate.
- As necessary, re-check and pass off parts for series production.
- Record the pass-off status of parts on the Setup Sheet provided by the Supervision and place annotated CMM print outs in the filing box in Inspection.
General
- Report any health and safety issues to the Supervision
- Look for improvements on shop floor and report these to the Quality Manager.
- Keep the Inspection clean and tidy; clearly mark-up checked parts to prevent non-conforming parts from being mixed with good parts.
- Keep in regular contact with the shift’s Supervision using the walkie-talkie provided in the Inspection. Carry it with you during your shift.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum HND standard.
- Good practical analytical & problem solving skills
- Working Knowledge of Quality Techniques (APQP / SPC)
- Quality Assurance experience in Automotive Industry
- Proficiency in reading Engineering drawings
- Ability to interpret CMM data
- Proficiency with Excel
- Enthusiasm and Commitment to achieve

- Prepared to work overtime in line with Customer demands.
